Barefoot Friendsgiving: Barefoot Merlot Cranberry Sauce


Do you ever feel like one Thanksgiving just isn't enough? Us too! That's why we've developed a few recipes with our Barefoot Wine to share with you this week so you can double-up on the Thanksgiving fun. Call your friends and have everyone take a dish and do a fun Friendsgiving celebration this weekend. It couldn't be easier! First up: Barefoot Merlot Cranberry Sauce. You know what makes cranberry sauce extra fantastic? Wine. Barefoot Merlot to be exact. Not only do you get to pour yourself a little glass to sip on while preparing the sauce, but the Barefoot Merlot gives your cranberry sauce such an elevated flavor. With this sauce, you might not even need a gravy at Thanksgiving because you’ll just want to slather this on top of everything. Best part is… this recipe is super easy and it only requires one dish. Start with all your ingredients!

Place the fresh cranberries into a small saucepan

Add in some brown sugar and then pour in the Barefoot Merlot.

Bring all the ingredients to a boil and then simmer for about 20 minutes. Once the mixture starts to thicken, add some lemon and orange zest for a bit of acidity! Finally, add some crystalized ginger and then cook for a few minutes more for all the flavors to combine!

All that’s left to do is let the sauce cool, and then serve it up as needed!



Barefoot Merlot Cranberry Sauce

16 ounces fresh cranberries

2/3 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup Barefoot Merlot

1/2 orange, zested

1/2 lemon, zested

1/2 cinnamon stick

1 tablespoon chopped crystalized ginger

1 tablespoon agave nectar

Combine cranberries, brown sugar and Barefoot Merlot in a saucepan over high heat.

Add the cinnamon stick and stir to combine.

Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce heat to medium. Simmer for 20 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken.

After 20 minutes, add the orange zest, lemon zest and crystalized ginger, stir to combine and simmer for another 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, add the agave nectar, stir to combine, and let the flavors meld together and cool for at least 1 hour before serving.

Remove the cinnamon stick before serving.

Store it in an airtight container and refrigerate as needed. This can be made up to 1 week before using.
