It's not a party without pretzels! Especially during WineTOEberfest. But this homemade treat is sure to steal the show at your soireee any time of year. So grab your friends and your favorite mustards - there'll be plenty of pretzel to go around.
Begin by dissolving yeast and a teaspoon of sugar in hot tap water in a small bowl. Let stand 10 minutes. In a larger bowl, mix flour and 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and then make a well in the center. Pour the oil and the mixture from the small bowl into it. Mix it all into a dough, kneading until smooth. Coat with veggie oil and cover with plastic wrap and let rest one hour. Preheat oven to 450 and grease 2 baking sheets. Then dissolve baking soda in 4 cups hot water and set aside. Once the dough has risen, place it on a lightly floured surface and divide into 12 equal pieces. Now you're ready to roll!
Roll each piece into a rope and twist into a wine glass shape. Dip each pretzel into the baking soda and hot water solution and place on baking sheets. Sprinkle with kosher salt. Bake pretzels in oven until browned, about 8 minutes. Serve with Barefoot White Zinfandel and mustard for the perfect WineTOEberfest treat. Prost!
